Cody Jinks with Whitey Morgan

Date: July 17, 2021
Time: 8:00 PM

Cody Jinks, one of the stars of the modern outlaw country music movement, will make his early anticipated return to Dubuque’s Five Flags Center on Saturday, July 17. Jinks most recently appeared at Five Flags in November of 2018, drawing a raucous crowd of about 1,800 fans. Jinks will be joined by Whitey Morgan, another outlaw country favorite.

Described by Rolling Stone as having a “blue-collar brand of lived-in country,” Dallas area native Cody Jinks has emerged as one of the most popular stars of the modern branch of so-called “outlaw country.” After beginning his music career in a thrash metal band, Jinks transitioned to country music in the mid-2000s and has since released nine critically-acclaimed albums.

Commercial success followed about a decade later, with 2016’s ‘I’m Not the Devil.’ The self-released album rose to the Top Ten of both Billboard’s Country and Indie albums charts. Jinks would again make the upper echelon of those rankings with 2018’s ‘Lifers,’ and 2019’s dual releases of ‘After the Fire’ and ‘The Wanting.’ Those two albums also occupied the top two spots on the album sales rankings from both iTunes and Apple Music. Jinks enjoys a particularly strong online fanbase, as his songs have been streamed on Spotify more than 552 million times.

Whitey Morgan’s music career has spanned more than 15 years, time in which Morgan has released five studio albums and a live recording from his hometown of Flint, Michigan. Additionally, he has toured relentlessly averaging over 125 shows annually. Rolling Stone has described him as a "Waylon Jennings acolyte…modern day outlaw [with a] hard hitting brand of music." NPR Music has hailed "staying close to the sound and subject matter of classic outlaw artists like Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, and David Allan Coe, Morgan is poised to lead this hand-worn brand of country to the next generation."
