Wynonna & The Big Noise

Date: Sept 06, 2019

Wynonna Judd, one of the most celebrated voices in the history of country music, will make her first ever solo appearance in Dubuque as she performs at the Historic Five Flags Theater with her band The Big Noise this fall on Friday, September 6. Southern folk rockers Great Peacock will open for Wynonna & The Big Noise.

Judd’s rich and commanding voice has been a presence in country music for 35 years, dating back to her time in the legendary duo “The Judds,” with her mother, Naomi. The Judds released six studio albums, and each achieved Gold certification, with five of the half-dozen going platinum. Fourteen of the group’s singles reached #1 on the Billboard Country chart, including a run of eight consecutive chart-toppers beginning with 1984’s “Mama He’s Crazy.”

Wynonna went on to solo success after illness forced her mother to step away from music. Her self-titled solo debut topped the Billboard Country chart as Rolling Stone described her as “the greatest female county singer since Patsy Cline.” Wynonna’s three decades in music have produced more than 30 million album sales, 20 Number 1 hits, and more than 60 industry awards.

While the Judds headlined the 1987 edition of the Dubuque County Fair, this will be Wynonna’s first Dubuque concert as a solo act. Her latest album, “Wynonna & The Big Noise,” marks her first studio release in nearly a decade. The album takes its name from Wynonna’s new backing band, led by her husband Cactus Moser, who is also the group’s drummer and served as producer for the new record. According to Wynonna, the band’s sound is “vintage yet modern” and a “return to the well.” NPR’s Ann Powers noted that “(Wynonna) just sounds like she’s home…you can just feel the grin on her face.” The album also features collaborations with the likes of Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell, Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks (of the Tedeschi Trucks Band), and Timothy B. Schmit of The Eagles.
